Hey..if there is any truth to the following please email ? The most dangerous thing can be the human being. (??) People might love to create stories to make something spookier !!!!

Most folks in western Connecticut don’t believe in witchcraft, devils, ghosts or the like. They prefer that the people with the weird theories stay away. They’ve posted no parking signs on Dark Entry Road to discourage visitors, particularly any overnight guests. The Appalachian Trail used to go through here, but it was rerouted several years ago. Over the years, several through hikers, on their way from Georgia to Maine, reported being harassed at night. They never saw their antagonists, but reported moans and screams and rotten limbs falling on their tents. Hikers have disappeared in this area and never been found. Of course, a lot of lone hikers disappear. That’s why they say, “Never hike alone”.

This sign has been put up in late 2009 in a parking area way down on Rt.4. It is a possible place to park to hike the Mohawk Trail. Your tax dollars pay for this. (Mohawk Trail goes through the Dudleytown Area mostly if not all on State Forest lands)

Look at State Forest Map. Dark Entry Forest owns all land and nobody can use the State Forest ?

HONESTLY NOW !!! PRIVATE LAND HAS THE TOTAL RIGHT TO BE 'PRIVATE'. I JUST GET FRUSTRATED BY THE DILIGENCE AT ARRESTING PEOPLE. I DRIVE UP THE LOCAL ROADS AND THEY ARE TOWN ROADS AND HAVE RESIDENTS CALL THE POLICE ? DOES NOT ONE HAVE THE RIGHT TO MAYBE EVEN GET ANGRY ? AGAIN..NOT ALL LAND IS DARK ENTRY FOREST LAND !!!

I THINK IF ONE IS JUST A HIKER ON THE MOHAWK TRAIL THEY ARE NOT BOTHERED ? WHO KNOWS !!! PEOPLE WALKED AND SNOOPED THIS UNIQUE AREA FOR DECADES WITH IT BEING ON THE ROUTE OF THE APPALACHIAN TRAIL AND SEVERE PROBLEMS ? GHOST STORIES JUST GREW WITH THE MYSTERIES. PERSONALLY I DO NOT WANT TO SEE GHOSTS IF THEY EXIST !!! ALSO THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE WHO LIVE ALONG THE ROADS INTO THE AREA AND IF THEY WERE TOTALLY FREAKED OUT WOULD THEY STAY THERE ? MAYBE.

GHOST STORIES MAKE GOOD STORIES !!! GOOD CAMPFIRE TALES, ETC. ONE CAN UNDERSTAND IF YOU WERE ON THE PROPERTY BUT EVEN THEN THE 'PRIVACY' THING IN MY OPINION WENT TOO FAR. I ASK FOR PERMISSION TO WALK THEIR LANDS AND GET SNUBBED WHEN ALL I WANTED TO DO IS BE A HIKER. I WANDERED THERE IN THE 50'S AND 60'S SO ??

Hey...maybe the area is cursed ?? I went up there again July 2008 and till now I can't get any satisfaction as to pictures.

I avoided the mistake of last trip. Last trip camera battery went dead. I brought two 35mm film cameras and plenty of extra film.

A beautiful day and it's always beautiful up there on a nice sunny summer day.

I hiked from Dark Entry Road till a good distance past Echo Rock on Coltsfoot Mountain. I did not want to go DOWN to Cornwall because the trail is horrible as to ease to walk. (last trip using that route September 2007 and got down the trail prior to rain...lucky.. THE TRAIL HERE CAN BE DANGEROUS.

Well..everything was going wonderful this last hike up there. Prior to return I rested at Echo Rock. (gezzzzz...I brought a blanket to lie down on but oddly left that behind on paved Dark Entry Road at beginning of hike)

I brought a cold collection of BEER. MY ERROR ??

I took many pictures to satisfy my prior lack of such.

Well..time to go back.

Blame the BEER ?? In short I took a fall on slippery rocks and one camera fell in Bonney Brook. It was the extra with no film in it.

I think I saved it and all I had was a scratch on the arm.

Grrrr it's getting dark !!!! I continued and finally got to paved Dark Entry Road and back to car.

DISCOVERY ?? All my film rolls were GONE. I assume they fell out of a hole in paper bag. Seems I would normally notice such.

A BAD LUCK PLACE ??

The walk up there is MUCH WORK. I don't know when I'm going to re-do it. The work is all in paved Dark Entry Road. By the time you climb that your legs are shot. (remember NO PARKING signs on all roads going that direction)

If anybody wants to go up there email me. I must know about as much about the area as anybody. It's beautiful woods and becoming old growth forest. The hike is not difficult !!!!! except getting to the trail !!!! With a car one could just drop off a hiker at the end of Dark Entry Road. Other 2 roads (Bald Mountain and Dudleytown) one would have to walk Dark Entry Forest property and trespass.

With a drop off with a car one could walk the area and get some good pictures and be gone.----with no severe hiking---

For 'explorers' there is much up there to snoop. I can not guess the last time somebody walked the non-trail sections of Coltsfoot Mountain. Baldwin Caves ?? (I think Baldwin Caves are the same as Coltsfoot Mountain Caves)

Much of the area is giant rocks and things to explore.

Notice I said nothing about GHOSTS ?? I'm not looking for GHOSTS. I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY. I just begin to wonder about my BAD LUCK !!!!! (up there)

Nobody should hike alone. Again..anybody want to take a walk up there and satisfy the picture thing ?? Email me. Again..I must know as much about up there as anybody. Not Dudleytown but the forest/woods/trails,etc.

-- o----nothing 'commercial' here.. It's simply 2 people or more can void out many mistakes or bad luck.

-- and at least on a sunny day there is wildlife up there... I saw numerous birds and gray squirrels, etc. last walk.

Bad Luck ?? 2009 the stream the Mohawk Trail follows and crosses before going up Coltsfoot Mountain was flooded. Flooded to where it was impossible to cross. More like a small lake and 'quicksand' type mud. Imagine taking the hike from Dark Entry Road and descending the very difficult trail down to Cornwall and meeting this DEAD END !!!!!!

Sure..a person used of being in the woods could eventually walk and mile+ around the flooding but the normal person ? Not all is funny. I have sprained my ankles before to where it is impossible to walk a few feet.

2011---The brook if not flooded has weeds/grass 7 feet tall !!! Bless Lyme Ticks !!! (almost guaranteed) Even the property owners do not want the trail and it now wanders closer to the river/stream.

The work is mostly walking Dark Entry Road. On map above (click to view) see it in left upper corner. A portion is paved and you have to walk to end of paved section--all uphill-- to get to the present Mohawk Trail. Is it just me ?? Allot of work. Note that prior to the Dark Entry Forest Associations objections the trail route went via woodlands down to Rt. 7.

I'm thirsty at night

I'm waiting and watching

we are watching

If you read the 'ramblings' below..well...in short....

The last time I was up there it was a very HOT DAY I met some 'strange person' offering COLD BEER. (#1-the miracle of cold beer in the middle of nowhere on a mountain ?) At first I resisted saying I've gotta get in a car and drive home.

Then it hit me it would take multiple hours just to get back to the car !!!! ---and it was a few hours before it would get DARK !!!! He offered a 'tour' of various DUDLEYTOWN spots but I refused over the possible trespassing issue. I was in DUDLEYTOWN as it was but in State Forest Property.

THE DARK ENTRY FOREST ASSOCIATION owns most the land where old Dudleytown is. My last visit to Cornwall, Connecticut Town Hall they could not give any 'real' land maps and said the area was being surveyed. The maps they had were not very informative as they showed 'ownership' but no feet, miles.. meters.. or whatever !!!!

Otherwise much of the land up there is owned by the State. Wyantenock State Forest. There is at present a blue blazed trail through the area called the Mohawk Trail. As far as I know it is open to 'hikers'.

THE DARK ENTRY FOREST ASSOCIATION has taxpayers paying for their insane and illegal enforcement. Signs were put up on PUBLIC ROADS that say NO PARKING. OK--taxpayers paid for it. ===but the roads are PUBLIC and driving them is legal...

In addition THE DARK ENTRY FOREST ASSOCIATION have some members who call police every time a car drives on these public roads. Hey...definition of parking ?? Texas-Style it has become a revenue operation. Pay your fine. Pay to fight it ???

I can understand the irritation to some members of THE DARK ENTRY FOREST ASSOCIATION with never-ending GHOST HUNTERS. Hey..for decades the Appalachian Trail went right through here !!!! Few if anybody talked about GHOSTS.

I will contact them upcoming to see what their present policy is. At least to me I REALLY DON'T WANT TO MEET ANY GHOSTS SO ???? !!!!

I've had my oddities up there but-----I have one idea....---Some areas in NW Connecticut are 'magnetic'. I forget the name of the metal. They used to make IRON in this area and in some places even your compass will go wacky.

THEN TO TOP OFF IRRITATION THERE ARE SOME ON THE WEB SELLING BOOKS AS IF ONLY THEY CAN PUT OUT INFORMATION RELATING TO THE AREA !!! EVEN I MUST HAVE MORE IF NOT THE SAME AS THEY DO. DO THEY LIVE IN CORNWALL, CT ??

PLEASE excuse my knocking of THE DARK ENTRY FOREST ASSOCIATION but I think they are taking the wrong approach. They are creating mysteries !!! To add to that what is the 'Association' ?? A mystery ? It was founded by Dr. Clark, the last resident of Dudleywown. His wife went INSANE (like many others) and it seems he moved away.

To balance against this who wants 'crazies' hanging around 'their' woods nevertheless the possibility of fires ??

Dudleytown although part of rural town of Cornwall always had its distinct geographical separation and 'place name' AND till 2011 there's nothing up there !!!!!

Oddly nobody has built anything close or near to the old Dudleytown site and it still remains a deserted section up in the mountains with even the roads have reverted to impassable abandoned wood roads.

The Appalachian Trail no longer goes through here but a Connecticut blue blazed trail called the Mohawk Trail does takes mostly the route of the Appalachian Trail route that existed up to the 1980's.

This website author has been through the area many times and it is a beautiful strange place. The beauty might stem from the remoteness of the place and the peace and quiet of the forested mountain areas.

[ editor just took another trip up there 5/2007-- A few 'daylight' photos upcoming --- please get up to date info from Dark Entry Forest Association as to permission. I can't advocate trespass]

Otherwise we express no opinion because these tales have been going on for a LONG LONG time and they have no single creator.

Till this day no local person will get anywhere around that area up in the mountains. It's very easy for anybody to go there..a rather rugged hike of miles..try it out yourself !!!! I have yet to meet anyone who will spend the night up there. Yes..if in company of numerous others but ??

There are many many abandoned old settlements around the New England woods. Why choose this one as a good story ?

Again..the tales began many many years ago and from endless independent sources.

It seems Dark Entry Forest Association closed the area in 2001. Do not trespass !!!!!

To this writer I must say it's mighty odd to me this organization wants to take such a beautiful area and keep all the secrets and enjoyment to themselves.

I've been up there many a time. You can't get a 'local' to admit there was a place called Dudleytown.

They look at you with hatred if your not a local although your on public roads. Then the 'strong-arm' tactics are from an organization of 'nice people'???

They even have to 'strong-arm' Town and State Police into enforcing 24/7 their quirks about anybody being in the area...no matter what good intentions...and even not on their property !!!!!

The area is beautiful. I will try to get land maps of ownership of this Dark Entry Forest Association and post such.

I don't think a 'private club' should keep everybody from enjoying the beauty of the area when it's even off their property !!!!! I spent years walking the area when younger. I'm still around !!!! I can't say it's 'spooked' or not but putting something into total secrecy only builds mysteries.

Just in my opinion...'good people' will pursue the wrong-doers...not try to arrest all and any with good intentions..even if off their property !!!! (they must have town/state government spooked into worshiping them?)

I hate to be so nasty but why are they so nasty ? Sure..file complaints against those who might be causing problems !!!! --everybody? My guess is something happened..somebody really did get spooked? If so and you lived nearby? You would want to get the place out of your mind ?.

---- again.. don't trespass.. follow town laws... but don't let them bully you into not enjoying land that is not theirs. I guess it takes someone to take them to court. Why should you pay a fine for a country hike not even on their property? --because they don't like the idea your around their area although not in it?
