In 1889 the first land was preserved for Steep Rock Reservation. (later to be named that) Today Steep Rock Reservation land holdings include over 2,700 acres.

One of the interesting aspects of the Reservation is an old Railroad grade still exists through the Park. The line was abandoned in 1948 but it chugged along to that final death year.
