Litchfield - Old Mount Tom - On the trail of Mount Tom, there is a strangely old foundation that is boarded with creaky old stair wells and when you get to the top, you can hear moaning from the floors below. Some people gave reported seeing strange semi transparent images though the images are not clear. The ghost is said to be a high school kid who died while on the trail. The name is unknown, and some people have even had communications with this "ghost."

Many at nights still hear the old Railroad Train to the South of the Park. They probably did into the 1940's but the line was abandoned then. Click this link for more information.

Mount Tom State Park - Tower Trail

Mt. Tom is one of the oldest parks in the state park system; it is named for the mountain within its boundaries. There is a stone tower on top of the mountain that is a favored destination among hikers. The summit of Mt. Tom is 1325 feet above sea level, 125 feet higher than its Massachusetts counterpart. The tower trail is less than one mile long and rises some 500 feet.

Mount Tom State Park consists of 233 acres. A yellow blazed trail goes to the top of the mountain where there is an observation tower.

The Tower Trail.

---- just before you reach the main picnic area and there is a parking area to the right.

Take the yellow blazed gravel road through a wooden gate and continue on gravel road as it rises in elevation.

Turn left after climbing somewhat on the gravel road. Only about a quarter mile you reach and meet a stone tower about 30 feet high.

Inside the tower there are wooden stairs to the top.

The tower was replaced in 1921 to replace on older one.

There is an alternate trail to return on, still a yellow blazed trail. You will pas the remains of Camp Sepunkum. During 1916-1934 it housed the Waterbury Boy Scouts who helped with development of the park.
